Perspectives: Sounds of America
Constellations Virtual Concert #13
Time & Location
Aug 23, 2020, 4:00 PM EDT – Aug 26, 2020, 4:00 PM EDT
About the Event
Join us next Sunday at 4PM Eastern for a virtual concert featuring the Chen Family Quartet! Based in Chicago, the Chen family has been performing together for six years, frequently gifting their music to retirement homes, hospitals, and for others who are most in need of inspiring music. "Perspectives" is their offering of string quartets inspired in many ways by experiences of America - as viewed from both inside and out!
The performance will be live-streamed on our homepage (www.constellationsmusic.org) and Facebook page right at 4PM Eastern on Sunday, August 23. The Chens will also be joining us for a live Q&A session and virtual reception immediately following the concert in Constellations' Zoom meeting room! Join with the free Zoom app - you can find that here if you don't already have it. After the reception, the virtual concert will remain on our home page for 72 hours, and then will move to our online archives.
The Chens are an incredible musical family: dad Robert is concertmaster of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, mom Laura is a former member of the Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, and Boston Symphony, daughter Beatrice studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, and son Noah attends the Juilliard School Pre-College Division. Don't miss this chance to see the four of them in action!
Sunday's concert features the following works:
Antonín Dvořák: String Quartet in F Major, Op. 96 ("American") - Allegro ma non troppo
Florence Price: Five Folksongs in Counterpoint - Calvary - Oh My Darlin’ Clementine - Drink to Me With Thine Own Eyes - Shortnin’ Bread - Swing Low, Sweet Chariot
Dvořák "American" Quartet - Finale: Vivace ma non troppo
