Chamber Music Workshop

IMG_4216.JPG

Memorial Day Weekend 2026, Constellations Chamber Concerts is planning to pilot a four-day Chamber Music Workshop for adult amateur musicians in Montgomery County, Maryland (Friday–Monday, May 22–25, 2026). Selected participants will be placed in balanced, carefully chosen ensembles (strings, winds, and piano) and work with master coaches toward an informal performance on Memorial Day. Expect a supportive, well-organized long weekend focused on practical ensemble skills and joyful music-making!

TENTATIVE DETAILS:

  • Who: You and other amateur chamber music lovers in the DMV area - string, winds, and piano players welcome!

  • What: An uplifting and intensive 4-day chamber music workshop featuring daily rehearsals and coachings by experienced professional artists, with a final friendly performance opportunity. (Details currently subject to change.)

  • When: Friday, May 22 through Monday, May 25, 2026, 9 am - 5 pm each day

  • Where: Rehearsal and coaching venue(s) near the Potomac, MD area, with final performance at the Constellations Music Salon in Potomac

  • How: Application expected to open January 1, 2026 - watch this page for updates!

The daily rhythm will run roughly 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. with morning rehearsals, afternoon coachings, and a Sunday open dress rehearsal. Parts will be assigned and mailed 6-8 weeks in advance so everyone arrives prepared. The Memorial Day performance will be recorded for participant's personal use.

Eligibility is adults (18+) on strings, winds, or piano. All skill levels are welcome, but you should be reasonably comfortable preparing a single movement from a standard string quartet (think Haydn or Mozart) to get the most out of the experience.  We plan to have live and taped audition options, likely including one short solo from standard repertoire (no accompanied needed) plus an instrument-specific chamber excerpt we will provide. (Pre-formed groups will most likely not be accepted in 2026 so we can better balance instrumentation and coaching.)

The tuition fee (amount TBD) will include assigned parts, scheduled coaching/rehearsal time, use of stands/chairs, and a performance recording. Subject to funding, we hope to make need-based financial aid available case-by-case to a limited number of participants.

Policies, timeline, and inclusions may evolve as we confirm our venue and faculty for the workshop.  Please treat all details as tentative!  If you are interested in participating, please save the dates and feel free to send us a note to confirm your interest!
