Applauded for his “brilliant and compelling programming” (The Strad) and his "mind-blowing" playing (Oregon Arts Watch), Sam Suggs is the first solo double bassist in a generation to join the roster of Concert Artists Guild.

A performer-composer, he won 1st prize in the International Society of Bassists Solo Competition performing his own pieces, was featured in Musical America as a "New Artist of the Month" and recognized with a jury prize for Extraordinary Creativity at the Bradetich Foundation International Double Bass Solo Competition.

As a collaborative musician, he has performed at the Mostly Mozart Festival, Phoenix Chamber Music Festival, Yellow Barn, Chamber Music Northwest, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and alongside Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Amernet, Rolston, and Argus Quartets, Lysander Piano Trio, PUBLIQuartet, Frisson Ensemble, and his contemporary jazz trio Triplepoint.

Only the third double bassist to receive the prestigious DMA from the Yale School of Music, Sam is Assistant Professor of Bass at James Madison University and serves on the faculties of the Sewanee Summer Music Festival and the Heifetz Institute. A native of Buffalo, he spends his time between the Northeast and the Shenandoah Valley performing with various chamber, crossover, and contemporary projects, and giving recitals and masterclasses. @s3suggs
