About the Event

This Sunday at 4PM Eastern, we're welcoming back Sandbox Percussion to Constellations for their very own Virtual Concert!  This Brooklyn-based percussion quartet is smashing down boundaries in classical music and having a blast while doing it!  Many of you may remember Sandbox from our Metamorphosis concert back in March (feels like ages ago!), or from their cameo appearance on our "A Time to Listen" special event in June.  For those of you who haven't, come and see why the Washington Post describes Sandbox as "revitalizing the world of classical music" with their "jaw-dropping virtuosity!"  The members of Sandbox Percussion have been relentless in pushing forward with their musical vision regardless of the pandemic, and forging ahead with creative new projects to connect with audiences in our new virtual world - hence the title of this week's concert!

For this virtual concert, Sandbox will also be joined by the students of the 2020 NYU Sandbox Percussion Seminar for a performance of the newly-composed Loud and Soft by NYU faculty Molly Joyce.  Sandbox has been virtually leading this annual seminar in collaboration with the NYU Steinhardt Percussion Studies Program since August 2, with over 25 participants from across the country - all of whom will be performing for Joyce's work!

The performance will be live-streamed on our homepage (www.constellationsmusic.org), Facebook, and Sandbox's YouTube channel starting right at 4PM Eastern on Sunday, August 9.  Sandbox will also be joinind us for a live Q&A session with the artists and virtual reception immediately following the concert in Constellations' Zoom meeting room!  Join with the free Zoom app - you can find that here if you don't already have it.  After the reception, the virtual concert will remain on our home page for 72 hours, and then will move to our online archives.  Sunday's concert features the following works:

Bell Patterns - Victor Caccese

Gossamer - Nick DiBerardino

Sonata - Jonny Allen

Loud and Soft - Molly Joyce (WORLD PREMIERE featuring the participants of the 2020 NYU Sandbox Percussion Seminar) Pillar II - Andy Akiho

Dark Full Ride - Julia Wolfe

Thank you to Hae-Soon Hahn & Steve Rosenbaum, Jean Rosenbaum, Suzi Wizowaty, Burton Tepfer, and Terrence Potter for sponsoring this week's concert!  All donations go 100% to support artists during the COVID-19 pandemic.  You can donate here or by texting "CONSTELLATIONS" to 44-321!
