The concert opens with Haydn's ebullient quartet in C Major, Op. 54 No. 2 followed by Grażyna Bacewicz’s electrifying Piano Quintet No. 1—a rarely heard masterwork of rhythmic drive and lyrical ingenuity. The performance concludes with George Rochberg's String Quartet No. 3, a deeply personal work marking a transformation in the composer's style as he grappled with the grief of profound loss and reckoned with the ghosts of Classical and Romantic masters of old.
